BORN CIRCULAR
Pontetorto presents its new collection at Performance Days and Functional Fabric Fair
Pontetorto reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and circularity by presenting its new collection of sports fabrics focused on Circular Economy and Insulation at Performance Days (October 29–30) and Functional Fabric Fair (November 12–13).
Founded in 1952, the Tuscan company has placed circularity at the heart of its strategic vision, transforming it from a guiding principle into a concrete practice. This philosophy stems from deep-rooted expertise, passion, and genuine attention to environmental issues.
Textile-to-Textile: back to the future
In a global context where more than 100 billion garments are produced each year—most of which end up incinerated or in landfills—recycling stands out as the most realistic and sustainable solution.
Pontetorto anticipates this industrial transformation with a textile-to-textile (T2T) approach that turns production waste into new textile fibers.
During the finishing process, waste materials are recovered, sorted by color, cleaned of impurities, and reconverted into new recycled fibers, which are then woven again. Each stage of the process is carried out sustainably, resulting in fully recycled fabrics.
This model draws inspiration from the centuries-old textile tradition of Prato, reinterpreted through the most advanced technologies, and involves garment manufacturers as well, allowing them to reduce disposal costs by sending production scraps back “in-house” to generate new 100% recycled fabrics.
RENU™ Project: polyester reborn
Since 2023, Pontetorto has complemented its internal recycling model with the RENU™ project, developed by Itochu, one of the world’s leading textile and apparel players.
Through depolymerization and purification processes, RENU™ enables the recycling of old garments and polyester fabrics to produce a new polyester with properties equivalent to virgin material, going beyond the traditional PET bottle recycling system still widely used globally.
Insulation: warmth meets lightness
Another key focus of the new collection is Insulation — thermal protection combined with lightweight performance.
The Tecnowear line introduces fabrics designed to replace down, offering comfort, lightness, and warmth. New weaving techniques combine technical fibers with noble fibers such as cashmere and fine wools of 16 microns, creating fabrics that merge innovation, style, and performance.
